'Waiting on Wednesday' is a weekly event hosted by Breaking the Spine, where we pick the book we just can't wait to get our hands on next.

Check our this week's pick after the jump!

She Is Not Invisible by Marcus Sedgwick

Synopsis from GoodreadsLaureth Peak's father is a writer. For years he's been trying, and failing, to write a novel about coincidence. His wife thinks he's obsessed, Laureth thinks he's on the verge of a breakdown. He's supposed to be doing research in Austria, so when his notebook shows up in New York, Laureth knows something is wrong.

On impulse she steals her mother's credit card and heads for the States, taking her strange little brother Benjamin with her. Reunited with the notebook, they begin to follow clues inside, trying to find their wayward father. Ahead lie challenges and threats, all of which are that much tougher for Laureth than they would be for any other 16-year old. Because Laureth Peak is blind.

Apart from being a very friendly twitter person, Marcus Sedgwick (@marcussedgwick) is also an extremely talented writer. He writes books that don't entirely make sense sometimes, until you read them again, and again. They have something mystical about them, almost like you're reading them from behind a veil, glimpsing the heart of them, only for another layer to be pulled over your eyes.

The cover for this one is absolutely beautiful, I love the inky effect on the title. Plus I'm really intrigued to read a novel with a blind protagonist. The idea itself, of a child trying to find their parent, reminds me of Where'd You Go Bernadette, which I loved, so I'm excited to pick this one up.

  1. I really like the premise behind She Is Not Invisible, it sounds really unique. I haven't read anything by Marcus Sedgwick, but this book sounds really wonderful. And I totally agree with you on the cover, it is gorgeous!

  2. I have not read anything by Marcus Sedgwick either, but I'm adding this to my Goodreads. It sounds like it has the potential to be a fantastic adventure from a unique perspective. :)

  3. I also loved Where'd You Go, Bernadette and the cover looks intriguing. I've never read anything by this author before, but I'm inclined to remedy that, especially if his books have layers that show up on re-reads. That's great.

  4. This sounds really interesting. I like that the MC is blind too; it's always nice to read about characters that differ from the "common." Thanks for sharing; I hadn't heard of this one yet!

  5. Sounds good. I haven't seen the book before but I'll have to check it out when it comes out. I hope you enjoy reading it.
Come check out my WOW post.

  6. This sounds really interesting and I haven't read anything from this author. I added this to my TBR. Thanks for sharing and for stopping by my blog!
